Episode 8: BULLFIGHT

TWO HOT-HEADED BROTHERS LOCK HORNS WHEN RE-ESTABLISHING CONTACT YEARS AFTER A FILMED ACT OF INFIDELITY TORE THEM APART.

Rodrigo Mella is an Italian writer and filmmaker based in the UK. To date, his work has been shown at BAFTA, BIFA and Academy Award-qualifying festivals. His stories focus on equivocal social contexts and ambiguous identities, with music and performance often playing a crucial role. Call Me Back: Bullfight is his first radio play.

“Bullfight deals with the complications of brotherly love, how often those who are closest to us can become the only person we are capable of hating more than we hate ourselves. In no other relationship can abuse exist in such hysterical fashion, and intimacy in such wild and abrasive language. This short play is an attempt to explore the specificity of this dynamic, while looking for hope and reparation in the emotional wasteland of family trauma.”
